For many years, Madeline Hollander has been unconsciously developing a language of symbols on paper, which serve as research and archive for her choreography and performance practice. As she says, "Everything has a color. So I have: left is blue, red is right, up is yellow and red, and down is orange. All the days of the week and time and numbers, everything has a color." Once recorded onto paper, Hollander is then able to watch her work unveil itself, and has performed accordingly in museums and art venues around the world. Her drawing titled "Conscious Countdown" is a study on movement as a vocabulary that approaches and moves away from a sequence. Her other drawing presented depicting Starfish also serves as a notation on counting down, as well as a representation of the perilous state of the planet.
