Sonia Almeida identifies as an image-maker and relates her process in the studio to conversing with her paintings. Previously, she has drawn from modes of verbal and non-verbal communication for her work, though more recently, she explores models of temporality and features of the digital. In her new paintings, she represents collected imagery of clocks and other instruments used to tell time, alluding to its peculiar construct during the global pandemic in particular. Additionally, Almeida masterfully depicts Internet glitch and pixelated or hyperrealist forms, pointing to the extent at which daily life is now experienced and mediated through screens.
