Sara Jimenez relates her installations to immersive collages, as they hang like curtains from the ceiling, composed of hundreds of small prints and assembled pieces of paper. Her smaller-scaled collages, despite their relative modesty, have a similar immersive and transporting effect. Jimenez focused on these smaller works during the pandemic, craving a hands-on daily practice and an intuitive approach to art making. The collages repurpose imagery from 20th century American Colonial texts and vintage postcards about the Philippines. Vibrant and almost mythical compositions, Jimenez's works on paper also raise questions about the history of imperialism.
